This page updated 26 August, 2010 |
Brian Townsend (Committee) Standard Smooth Dachshunds |
Anne Lacey (Vice-President / Acting Secretary / Newsletter Editor / Webmaster') I bought my first Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1975 and was initially involved in Obedience,
training 2 CDX qualifiers. The second of these was also my first 'show'
bitch who appears twice in the pedigree of the latest Kelbryn champion "Harley"
- 7 & 8 generations back. While competing in the Obedience arena I served as Secretary, Treasurer and Test Secretary of my club and was also Test Secretary for the NDOA (Obedience's equivalent of the National Dog Show) |
Judy Tonkin (Treasurer / Show Secretary) My involvement with pedigree dogs goes way back, as my Mother had Cocker Spaniels
for some time in the fifties. I remember showing at a couple of the first
National Shows. After I was married and had my daughters, dogs took a
back seat for some years. Our first cavalier was born in 1978, and we are
still owned by cavaliers today. I seem to have been involved in committees in one shape or form forever. Before we moved to Hawkes Bay in 1983 I was the secretary of the Central Cavalier Club in Wellington, and have been the Secretary |
Joy Macaulay (President) Joy's first dog was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi; unfortunately not show quality so along
came the Cairn Terriers with which she had many show ring successes and bred
several champions under her 1980-established 'Glenmac' prefix. She also
exhibited a West Highland White Terrier. Returning to her first love, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, in the mid-80's Joy has exhibited this breed very |
Debbie Tonkin (Committee) Cavaliers have been part of my life since I was ten years old, when I got my first
one, a tricolour dog, as a pet. A friend suggested to Mum that I should
take him to a Ribbon Parade. He won and I have been hooked ever since.
Of course the follow on from showing other peoples' breeding is
to breed your own, so our Kennel name, Krista Vahl, and our first litter was
born. We have been lucky enough to have bred some nice dogs over the years. Our first litter produced our first Specialty Best in Show winner. Since then we have bred and shown, one of the breeds' six Grand Champions, (Gr Ch Krista Vahl Just Trouble aka Weeman) and another who nearly made the title (Ch Krista Vahl Totally Evil aka Flossy). |
when it was hosted in Napier many years ago. I am a Life Member of the Central Welsh Corgi League and have been a Committee member, Treasurer, Show Secretary, Newletter Editor for the League, and currently Webmaster. Although not a founding member of ECLKA committee I have been a club member from the early days and on the Committee for most of those. Now serving my 5th term as Vice-President. I am the Admin Manager at APN Print, originally starting with the old HB Herald Tribune 27 years ago. |

successfully since, with many champions made up and, in 2010 has again added a Cairn Terrier to the Glenmac family.. Joy has previously served as a committee member of Hawke's Bay Kennel Association and the Central Welsh Corgi League and she is now enjoying her time with the ECLKA of which she is a foundation member. Joy is NZKC licensed to judge Groups 1 & 5 (Toys & Working) along with Ribbon Parades and Open Shows. Now retired, Joy has been married to husband John for 46 years and they have a son and daughter and 6 grandchildren. |
of the East Coast Cavalier Club since the mid eighties. I am the current President
of the Heretaunga Plains Toy Dog Society. Although not at the
inaugural meeting I have been a member of ECLKA since 1996, and a committee
member since 1998. At home I have been the 'kennel maid', and chief chopper upper of the dog food, and holder of the lead at the shows. I was the head of the bathing department, but these days Debbie has added that title to her resume. She now has to wash them as well as show them at the few shows we attend. Now that I am officially retired I enjoy spending the time with the dogs. I also enjoy being involved with the various committees I am on, and the contact with the many good friends I have made in the dog world. |

These days we are only showing locally, but are pleased to have bred ECLKA's 2006-07
Dog Of The Year winner, the tricolour dog, Ch Krista Vahl A Class Above, who
recently claimed his title. I have been the Treasurer of the East Coast Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club and the Heretaunga Plains Toy Dog Society for many years, and am enjoying my fifth year on the committee of ECLKA. I work as a Legal Secretary in Napier, and spend my time between houses. (With Mum, or my partner, Darryn.) |

Amber Logan-Riley (Committee) |

Carolyn Symmans (Committee) I have been involved with dogs since early childhood. My
late mother Verity Logan of then Longdrive Kennels exhibited Boxers, Labradors
and later she imported the first Pair of Afghan hounds into NZ in 1959. I used
to help her exhibit these at the shows. My first child handler win at a show was 1955 at the Ruahine show when I handled a Boxer. Later my mother and late step father went into the hotel management business and then retired to Waipatu, just out of Hastings, where my mother started breeding Australian Terriers under the Kiriona |

prefix. In the 70's I conducted show training on my parent's front lawn and later moved to the Hastings showgrounds and then to Clive on the riverbank I used to get big numbers of potential exhibitors and some older ones with problem exhibits. I enjoyed that part a lot. I have been involved with breeding Italian Greyhounds, later Skye Terriers then, after having a farm bike accident, I moved on to breeding Chihuahuas, which I am still doing. I exhibit them at occasional shows and have been doing very well, with one made into a NZ Ch after 11 shows. I am currently on the NZKC Judges' Panel, licensed for Ribbon Parades, Open Shows and Groups 2 & 4 at Champ show level. I delight in helping the new exhibitor and many times I have seen the newer folk floundering with the show system and have quietly taken them under my 'wing' and showed them what to do etc. This has been mostly done at shows, usually in a quiet spot behind parked cars or such, and it has been appreciated. Frequently these folk have acknowledged what I have done for them years down the track. I am a foundation member of East Coast Ladies Kennel Assn and I have seen over the years that the club has become strong and to my mind is one of the most friendly and relaxed clubs about, of which I am proud. Now that I am a committee member I do hope I can put back in what the club has done for me over the years. |
Diane Cooper (Committee) I have had dogs most of my life starting with a foxie/sheepdog that
came home with my father and me when we went to collect wool from a farm. Mum was
not happy when we got home with the pup I called Tip. It was not until I was older and working that I could get another dog and then got interested in showing and obedience training. My first Corgi was a fluffy from the Lusks in Palmerston North. |
David French (Committee) I am an electronics technician working in the computer field,
married to Lyn and have 2 daughters and a son. My introduction to dogs was slow; as a teen, a friend had a GSD, and then as a young adult, it was one of Brian Townsend's Dachshunds. Lyn and I rescued a young Rottweiler, and our daughter decided to get an Affenpinscher. 6mths later we introduced a Sheltie into our family. |

We showed both of these boys to title with the Affenpinscher "Ch Wee-Willy Wagtail
of Aphpyn" amassing well over 100CCs. The Sheltie "Ch Rolled Gold Of Cobberland"
was awarded ECLKA Working DOTY and overall DOTY 2004-2005. We rescued a young neutered Affenpinscher, then soon after another Sheltie joined our family. Affenpinscher number 3 arrived and our showing continued with him and the younger Sheltie. Affenpinscher "Ch Aphpyn Jumpin Jak-Flash" awarded Best Toy and Runner up DOTY; and Sheltie "Ch Beaucourt Outta My Dreams" runner up Best Working 2009-2010. I also was stunned to be awarded exhibitor of the year 2009-2010. |

He turned out to be a great little farm dog used to go down to the yards and help
with the sheep work, I would say he was a big dog in a little body, loved chasing
the stock and not too bad on cattle. Later on I decided to have another go at competitive Obedience, this time with a Labrador, Sam, who got up to Test C level. I've had dogs around ever since. Currently I have 3 Pembroke Corgis, a Border Collie, a Shetland Sheepdog and my cats (including a Best in Show winner) and the ewes, who are currently lambing. |
